Weekly Bird Identification Quiz
June 15 - June 21, 2009

How to Identify:
There are very few species that have the combination of colors that the individual in this photograph has. First, the red head really limits you to Red-headed Woodpecker and Red-breasted Sapsuckers. Red-headed Woodpecker can be eliminated due to the lack of a white belly. The extent of the red coming all the way down the breast and neck from the head, the black and white striping on the under wings, and the white stripe on the head all make this a Red-breasted Sapsucker.
