Weekly Bird Identification Quiz

Bird Quiz #15

How to Identify:
After a short study of this photograph one should come to the conclusion that this is a grebe species.  Seeing the yellow on the head limits the choices to Horned and Eared Grebe.  A Horned Grebe in breeding plumage should show a solid yellow patch on the head which the individual in the picture does not show.  A Horned Grebe would also have a rufous colored neck.  This can be identified as an Eared Grebe by the wispy yellow plumes and the black neck.
