Weekly Bird Identification Quiz
April 6 - April 12, 2009

How to Identify:
There are limited options for this bird. The only white wading herons/egrets are the white morphs of Great Blue and Reddish Egret, sub adult Little Blue Heron, and Cattle, Snowy, and Great Egrets. The bill color alone rules out Great, Snowy, and Cattle Egrets, and the white morph of Great Blue Heron. The bill color can look somewhat similar in white morph Reddish Egrets but the straw colored legs and the mottled blue plumage rule out Reddish Egret. This 1st spring Little Blue Heron should be a pretty easy bird to ID in most situations.
