Weekly Bird Identification Quiz
April 12 - 18, 2010
How to Identify:
The view of our quiz bird this week was not ideal but there are plenty of clues to this bird’s identity. After realizing that it is a species of duck, a few fieldmarks make the identification easy. The white patch near the tail eliminates most species. The combination of a bluish head and the spotting on the flanks identify this as a Blue-winged Teal. The spotting on the sides alone eliminates every species of duck other than the Blue-winged Teal.
