Bird Quiz #69

How to Identify:
Let’s start by listing out the few features on this bird that we can use for identification purposes.  First, we notice that the whole head and back are a dull yellow color.  This bird also has no wingbars but does have some yellow coloration in the wings and tail.  At this point, most people have figured out that it is some species of warbler.  So which warblers have this combination of features?  A female Hooded Warbler is close but the bold pattern on the wings eliminates this species.  Another species that comes close is Wilson’s Warbler but again, the pattern on the wings is much to bold for a Wilson’s.  This leaves us with Yellow Warbler.  The wing pattern is perfect for this species.  This individual is also the perfect shade of yellow for a Yellow Warbler.
