This 94 acre woodland park in Indianapolis borders the White River creating great habitat for migrating and resident passerines.

Specialty Species:

Vireos:  Hike the trails from behind the nature center down to the White River during the spring and fall for a chance at many species of vireos

Thrushes:  Walking the trails from behind the nature center down to the White River during the spring and fall will yield a chance at many species of thrushes.

Warblers:  Numerous species of warblers can be seen by hiking the trails from behind the nature center down to the White River during the spring and fall.

Winter Finches:  Look for winter finches in the late fall through the winter around the parking lot and ruins area in the spruce trees.  Also check the trees around the playground for Pine Siskins.  If the nature center is open, watch the feeders for Pine Siskins and many other more common birds.

Where to Bird:

All trails:  Look for migrant passerines in the spring and fall.  A good starting point is to park in the parking lot next to the nature center then walk back behind the nature center and begin on trail 3 or 4.

Nature Center:  The viewing window in the nature center provides an opportunity to view many birds at close range.  This is a great place to sit and watch for finches during the winter.

There are some paved trails that are accessible to all but many of the trails have stairs and are more rugged.

Directions:

From the North:  Travel south on US-31/Meridian Street.  Turn right (west) onto West 64th Street.  When the road comes to a T-intersection, turn (south) left onto Spring Mill Road.  At the next stop sign, turn left (east) into the park.

From the South:  Travel north on US-31/Meridian Street.  Turn left (west) onto West 64th Street.  When the road comes to a T-intersection, turn left (south) onto Spring Mill Road.  At the next stop sign, turn left (west) into the park.
