These fields are the best staging ground for American Golden-Plover in Indiana. This location provides you with the opportunity to see hundreds of plovers at one time. This area is also an Important Bird Area.
Specialty Species:
American Golden-Plover: Drive the county roads looking for American Golden-Plovers in the fields. They are typically easiest to find when they are in flight but if you look carefully you can find them feeding and resting in the fields.
Upland Sandpiper: This species can also be found by driving the county roads.

County Roads: The following is just a suggested route. Keep in mind that any of the fields in this area could contain the species listed.
Start by traveling west on SR-18. Turn left (north) onto CR-1000 E. Go to CR-400 N and turn left (west). When you reach CR-700 E turn left (south). Turn right onto CR-200 N. Follow this to CR-200 E and turn left (south). This will take you back to SR-18.

Directions:
From the North: Take I-65 South to Exit 188 for SR-18. Turn right (west) onto SR-18. CR-1000 E is on the right (north) after 8.05 miles.
From the South: Take I-65 North to Exit 188 for SR-18. Turn left (west) onto SR-18. CR-1000 E is on the right (north) after 8.20 miles.
From the East: From the intersection of I-65 and SR-18, take SR-18 west for 8.10 miles and turn right (north) onto CR-1000 E.
From the West: Take US-52 West toward Lafayette. Turn right (east) onto SR-18 just south of Fowler. Go 9.05 miles and turn left (north) onto CR-1000 E.
