This small portion of Grand Kankakee Marsh is one of the few spots that is accessible to birders.  It can be a very productive site when the area has enough water.

Specialty Species:

Waterfowl:  This area holds waterfowl species later in the spring than other places in Indiana.  Some of these species nest here, including Hooded Merganser.

Shorebirds:  During dry periods during the spring and fall migration, this area can hold hundreds of shorebirds.

Least Bittern:  Listen for this species around the marsh from May through July.

Where to Bird:

The Dike:  Park to the side of the gravel road near the gate. Hike up onto the dike and scan the marsh from here with your spotting scope.
