Lake George is located in Lake County in northwest Indiana.

Specialty Species:

Warblers:  During spring and fall migration, this area can produce a variety of warbler species.

Vireos:  Look for six of the seven regularly occurring vireo (excluding Bell’s) in migration.

Thrushes:  You can find many of the normally occurring thrush species in this area during migration.

Where to Bird:

Fishing Pier:  Scan from this area for Mute Swans and terns.  Great Egrets also commonly use this area.

Paved Trail:  Walk along this trail to look for migrant passerines.

George Lake Woodlot:  Walk the paths within this area and see migrant passerines.

From the parking area, begin walking down the paved trail past the gate.  Check the trees along the trail for migrant passerines.  When you get to the tunnel on the left, go through it onto the fishing pier.  Watch for sparrows on either side and scan the lake from the end of the pier.  Go back to the trail and continue along the pavement.  Go about 0.25 miles, turn around and head back towards the parking lot.  Be sure to check the portion of the lake to the north.  If the gate on the chain link fence is unlocked, enter George Lake Woodlot and bird from the trails within this area.  This is a good place for migrant passerines.
