The Burn
Crawfordsville, IN
This restored marsh is one of the best areas in Montgomery County to find shorebirds.
Specialty Species:
Lapland and Smith’s Longspurs: The fields around the Burn are great habitat for migrating and wintering Longspurs. Laplands are much more common but Smith’s are typically in the area during April.
Shorebirds: When the Burn and surrounding farm fields flood in the spring and fall, many shorebirds may congregate in the area.
Sparrows: Check the marshes throughout the property for a variety of sparrows during fall migration.
Warblers: While this may not seem like prime warbler habitat, the wood line and small woodland along the western edge of the property do attract some migrants.
